Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Video Klets collects when you use it, why, and how long we keep it. You can use Video Klets without an account. If you do not create one, we do not collect your email address or real name.
1. Your video and voice
Video and audio are not recorded or stored. Your browser sends them encrypted to Cloudflare's media servers, which forward them, encrypted, to the people in your chat or video room. To forward them, Cloudflare's servers handle the video and audio in memory while the call is live; nothing is saved.
2. Your IP address is not shared with other users
Your browser connects only to our servers and Cloudflare's, never directly to the people you chat with, so other users cannot see your IP address.
3. What we collect
- Connection details: IP address and the approximate place it belongs to (country, region and city), the network provider it belongs to, whether the connection appears to come through a VPN, proxy or privacy relay, your browser, operating system, device type, language and time zone setting, and when you connected and disconnected.
- What you enter: the display name and interests you type before a random chat, and the names and descriptions of groups you create.
- Activity: when you are matched, who you were matched with (by a random session ID), which groups you join and leave, when you skip or leave, and how your browser reached our video servers (directly or through a relay) or why the connection failed.
- Text chat: messages pass through our server to reach the other people in the chat. We normally do not store their content, only that a message was sent and its length. In a group, the last 50 messages are kept in memory only, so people who join can see the conversation; they disappear when everyone has left the group. There are two exceptions, described below.
- Automatic chat checks: every message, in random chats and in groups, is checked automatically, by a word filter and by an AI model (Cloudflare Workers AI, run for us by Cloudflare), for hate speech, harassment, sexual harassment, sexual content involving minors, people under 18, self-harm, threats, scams and sharing personal information. The check uses the recent messages of the chat, with participants labelled A, B and so on instead of names. When something is flagged, we save it together with up to 10 messages before and 10 after it, the model's scores, plus the session IDs, display names, user IDs, IP addresses and countries of the people in that chat, so a moderator can review it.
- Still images when you are reported: if someone reports a video call or video room with you for appearing under 18, nudity or sexual harassment, their browser takes one still image of your video. It is checked by the same AI model, together with the chat, to estimate your apparent age and detect nudity. The image is not stored: it is used only for that check and then discarded; we keep only the result and scores. If we switch on automatic checks, a still image of everyone on video is checked the same way at the start of each call and every few minutes.
- Automated decisions: depending on the results, a message may not be delivered, and a user may be disconnected or have their account and IP address banned automatically, without a person reviewing it first. You can ask for a person to review a decision (see section 8).
- Reports: when you report someone, we save the session IDs, display names, IP addresses and countries of you and the reported person, and the last 20 messages of that chat.
- Blocks: if someone is blocked, we store their IP address (for IPv6, the network part of it) and the reason, so we can stop them from returning.
- If you create an account: your Google account ID, email address and name (from Google sign-in), your date of birth (used only to confirm you are 18 or older), your gender (female or male), when you accepted the chat rules, the username you choose, a user ID we assign, when you joined and last signed in, and the IP address and country of your last visit. Other users see your username and avatar, and signed-in members can see your profile (below). They never see your email, name, date of birth or gender. Your user ID is linked to your activity, reports and flagged chats.
- Your profile (optional): the avatar and banner you pick from our presets, a short bio, up to five interests, the country you choose to show, whether your online status is shown, and who can see your profile. Your profile is shown only to signed-in members, never to guests or search engines. It shows your username, avatar, the month you joined, the public groups you created and badges such as "Early member". You can set it so members see only your username and avatar. We do not accept photo uploads.
- Your block list: the members you block, and when. We use it to keep you apart: you are not matched with them, and their messages are not sent to you. The person you block is not told. Moderators can see how many members blocked an account.
- GIFs: GIF searches go from our server to KLIPY (klipy.com) without your IP address or account, with a random ID kept in your browser so KLIPY can tell searches apart. The GIF images load directly from KLIPY's servers, which see your IP address like any website you visit. A GIF you send in a chat is handled like a message.
- Watch parties: the video plays from YouTube in its privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), and the pictures on watch party invites load from YouTube's image servers. YouTube sees your IP address, and Google's privacy policy applies to the video player. We keep the link and title of the video with the party, so moderators can see what was watched.
- Gender and match filters: your gender is used only for the "Women / Men" filters in Random Video Chat, so people who choose a filter are matched with registered users of that gender. It is not shown to other users. We also record the IP address from which you chose it: if another account chooses the other gender from the same address, a moderator may look at both accounts, because filters can be misused that way. The filters you choose (gender and countries) are saved with your account. Country filters use the country your IP address belongs to.
- Groups: for groups you create, we store the name, description, whether it is public or private, its invite link and when it was created and last active. For registered users we store which groups you joined, so they appear under "Your groups". Everyone in a group sees the usernames (or "Anonymous" names) of the people in it.
- Your agreement: that you confirmed you are 18 or older and accepted the Terms, and which version.
You get a new random session ID every time you connect. It is not linked to your name or to your earlier visits.
4. Why we collect it
- To connect you with other people, run groups and keep calls working.
- To investigate reports, block people who break the Terms, and protect users.
- To find and fix connection problems.
- To meet legal obligations, including requests from law enforcement.
5. How long we keep it
- Connection and activity logs: 30 days, then deleted automatically.
- Call statistics (length and number of messages, with no names or IP addresses): 90 days.
- Reports, flagged chats and blocks: until a moderator has dealt with them, then 12 months, then deleted automatically.
- Accounts: until you delete your account on your account page. Your profile and block list are deleted with it, and you are removed from other members' block lists. If an account is blocked, we keep only its Google account ID until the block ends, so the account cannot simply be created again.
- Groups: until the person who created the group deletes it or their account, or we close it. Group messages are never stored (see section 3).
- Watch parties: deleted automatically after a week without activity, with the video link kept for them.
We may keep information about a specific report or block for longer if it is needed for an investigation or required by law.
6. Who else receives it
- The people you chat with see your display name or username, your video and voice, and your messages. In a group, that is everyone in the group at the time, and people who join while your messages are still in the last 50.
- Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site, carries calls and runs the automatic AI checks on our behalf. Its servers are located around the world, so your information may be processed outside Hong Kong and outside your own country.
- KLIPY receives GIF searches (without your IP address) and serves the GIF images (see section 3).
- Google (YouTube) serves the videos in watch parties and the pictures on watch party invites (see section 3).
- Authorities, where the law requires it or someone may be in danger.
We do not sell your information or use it for advertising.
7. Stored on your device
If you sign in, we set one cookie that keeps you signed in for up to 30 days; it is removed when you sign out. Otherwise the chat site does not use cookies. Your browser stores a few settings on your device: your light or dark theme choice, that you accepted the Terms, your match filters, a random ID for GIF searches, and (without an account) the groups you joined recently. In a watch party, the YouTube player may store its own data in your browser. You can clear them in your browser settings at any time.
8. Your rights
Under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486) of Hong Kong, you can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you and ask us to correct it. You can also ask us to delete it or stop using it, and we will do so unless we must keep it, for example for an open report or because the law requires it. Send requests to support@videoklets.com. Without an account, we may need details such as the time of your session to find your data.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Hong Kong. If you live elsewhere, you may also have rights under your local law and can contact us to use them.
